About Me!

My name is Dr Eleanor Spring. I have a PhD in astronomy, which I completed at the University of Amsterdam in 2023. I moved to the Netherlands in 2017 for my PhD position, and my husband (then boyfriend) joined me here just at the outbreak of the 2020 COVID pandemic. We both love the Netherlands so much that we have decided to make out home here! We have a a little boy who was born here in Amsterdam, and another little boy en route to join us later in 2025!

Prior to my move to the Netherlands, I lived in Edinburgh, Scotland for 6 years as a completed my Bachelors and Masters in Physics with Astrophysics. Before that, I was born and raised in London, England. I have always been interested in different types of movement — I was terrible at group sports in school, but always enjoyed gym, and I danced from a young age. I tried yoga for the first time when I was 18 in London, but I did not really dive deeper until I was 20 and in my second year of University. I was a bit miserable at the time, and my mental and physical health were not very good. I found respite in yoga classes: it gave me a space where I could move my body at my own pace and give my mind a bit of breathing room.

At about the same time, I made a decision to change my major from geology to astrophysics. I found the transition between degree programs a tough process, and I ultimately took a year of part time study to get up to speed. I used the spare time available to me to sign up for my first yoga teacher training, in 2013. I followed this with another 200-hour training in India the following summer, and advanced 300-hour training in Ireland spaced out over the next few years. I completed my 85-hour prenatal teacher training in 2019 in Amsterdam, with a visiting teacher. I have been a Yoga Alliance (YA) experienced 500-hour registered yoga teacher since 2020.
